Lingual braces (Lingual Braces and its combinations) is the truly invisible braces as it is totally hidden.
It is customised to follow the contour and concealed behind the inner surfaces of teeth. This option is most often opted by adults who want their teeth straightened but don’t want to be seen in braces or whose jobs make it inappropriate for them to be seen with braces.
Totally inconspicuous, lingual braces offer precise outcome similar to conventional braces in experienced hands.
It can be done on both upper and lower teeth but most of our patients opt for upper lingual braces in combination with lower ceramic braces or clear aligners such as Invisalign.
History of lingual braces
Lingual braces were available since 1980s. Many orthodontists faced difficulties achieving the desired outcome due to its complex application then. This led to a decline in demand for lingual braces with many orthodontists discouraging patients from choosing lingual braces.
With the recent advancements and innovations, lingual braces are now becoming a popular option, especially among adults.
Sophisticated tooth-moving wires (eg. space-age titanium wires) are now being used for better comfort and reduced treatment time.
